False Idols

This week, there was a one-hour television special to disclose where LaBron James will play basketball. Why is this such an earth-shaking event? Sure the guy is a great basketball player. Good for him. But how many diseases has he found the cure for? What has he done to advance the cause of peace in the Middle East or anywhere else? Has he found a way to stop the catastrophe in the Gulf? No. He does what my wife describes as "throwing some kind of ball through some kind of apparatus".

When are we going to learn that our idols inevitably let us down? Whether they are entertainers, athletes or politicians, rarely does a week go by that we do not learn of their problems with sex, drugs or other behavior. Here's a crazy idea. Instead of looking for role models, become one. Check out my song "Riding Into the Sun"

I realize many of you are not old enough to remember the Saturday morning westerns but the idea still applies. Why do people have to look elsewhere for their "idols"? Isn't an idol merely man's feeble attempt to replicate the true spirituality?

Best always
